Statement from Chaka Khan Regarding Lindsay Lohan & Rehab

Chaka Khan Lindsay Lohan Twitter convo

August 7, 2013

“To choose to do what is necessary to better one's self is commendable. I applaud Lindsay Lohan for doing the work. She is a lovely young lady and I pray for her well-being. The battle of addiction is a serious and long process, which is why I chose to address my use of prescription medications—which came about as a result of the knee surgery I had a few years ago. When and if necessary, I will seek alternative methods and traditional treatment to stay ahead of any potential problem.  So many are not here today, and have lost this battle with addiction. Because these medications are legal, their abuse is often unknown—until it's too late. If not handled they are a silent killer.”

Chaka thank you for that statement!! Many people do not understand what a struggle and how exhausting battling addiction and mental disorders are. However everyone is always opening their mouths to speak on something they know nothing about

  • Cestau Childs-Clark

I applaud you for being so open. It’s a hidden problem so many are suffering from. I felt I was leaning on my meds to much after a knee surgery, so decided to drop them before I had a problem. It’s easy to become to addicted when the meds are so available, legally. Again, thank you and keep the music coming!

  • Karlos

Wow. No wonder the new album was delayed, and the shows were cancelled. Stay strong, CK. And keep fighting the good fight one day at a time.

    • Michael

Karlos, I think you are reading the wrong thing in Chaka’s statement.

      • Karlos

Not sure what you mean, Michael – CK was in rehab with Lindsay over the last couple of months. She had also cancelled some shows, and delayed the new CD’s release. I’m sorry to hear that Chaka is struggling with addiction issues again, because if you read “Through The Fire”, and have seen interviews over the last few years, you know that Chaka has been fighting this battle for a good portion of her adult life. So what I read in the statement is a response to the story that is being published today about there being issues between Chaka and Lindsay while both spent time in rehab together this summer.

        • gilda

Who is Karlos and how does he know anything regarding CK personally? Anyway good luck to anyone who is suffering with any addiction problem its a tuff road I have family who have overcome drugs, alcohol, sex abuse, and medical RX issues you can survive. Lets stop assuming every time CK is ill it is drugs. Guess she will never live that down.

          • Karlos

If you spent 90 seconds Googling it, gilda, you’d learn this statement came out today because there are a number of news reports about Chaka having been in treatment at Cliffside Rehab with Lindsay Lohan at some time in the last 60 days. Chaka had gone for treatment due to a medically prescribed pain-killer situation. And the way the story is being reported, Chaka and Lindsay had some form of confrontation at the treatment center, and Chaka left the center because of it.
I’ve read “Through The Fire”, I’ve seen countless interviews where CK has discussed her addiction issues. And I applaud her for getting in front of her issues, and seeking prompt treatment.

So no, my post is not a matter of YMS living anything down. It’s stating fact,

          • gilda

Read it and Ms. Khan simply states that she has had issues with prescription drugs because of knee surgery she had years ago. She didn’t say she spent time with that girl L Lohan in a rehab. Now I’m pleased that if she has a problem she will take care of it so it doesn’t get out of hand. I have family who have battled addiction and have won the war but they still work at it everyday. I believe that no matter what, Ms. Khan will stay true to herself and we her fans/friends will always love her for her music and contributions to the community and charity work. I won’t judge her she is human and so are all of those celebrities in entertainment. Matter of fact I feel sorry for them because its a lot of pressure to please all the time.

          • cogboy

sorry but she did address her recent stay in the same rehab as lindsay and it was the reports of their conflict which motivated her statement and recent tweets. it’s not some huge secret that she was seeking treatment in the facility. chaka has always been honest about her addiction issues and is to be applauded for her honesty and the classy way in which she has handled this situation.

  • Dimitri

It is really commendable of you to be so genuinely open and candid about these struggles that many famous people go through… Your truthfulness speaks to my heart and I hope it will help a lot of people. Thank you so much for being who you are Chaka and God bless!

  • Tish Townsend Turbe

Thank you Yvette. Yes Lindsay can do it . One day at a time. Gone the Tribe

  • Demicci Dior-Britt

Chaka, this is why I love you. You are so inspiring and real girl! I know your past with addiction and have witnessed you come back from it like the phoenix. I read this statement and am moved by the humility that I feel coming from the words you chose. It shows me that you still have a great respect for the drugs and it power to take your soul leaving one sense of self undefined. I struggle with my own abuse issues and am not yet moved to recovery. Although I will say I don’t feel a program will be the best option for me, I am praying that God reveals a way for me to do so on my on. I know that in my head I will not have achieved this unless just like I initiated this, I can alleviate it with God and the support of others. I am so bored with life and never seem to get the true spice out of life in my addiction. Though I do recall a time when life was a drug itself. I want that feeling back. I am creative and seem to only be able to think of fabulousness but am able to manifest this when I am clean. I need to get back there. Pray for me as I will you.

I Love You! God hears you Demicci! That strength and trust in God will get you to where you’re suppose to be. God bless You!

    • Nunayo Bisnez

It seems like people with “addictive personalities” think life is supposed to be a blast every day. Sometimes it’s exciting; sometimes there are neutral moments; and sometimes life is blah and boring. Life isn’t meant to be a thrill all of the time. It’s not a drug!

And good luck getting off drugs and/or alcohol without the help of a program. How well does that work for others? Just because people enroll in recovery programs does not mean they don’t also have faith in God. God can work through such programs.

You ARE my Hero!!! 40+ years of loving you & wanting to grow up be you!!!

  • ksun1

Glad to see anyone who is smart enough to know when they need help; and is humble enough to keep seeking it whenever necessary. Too many of our contemporaries have lost the battle. And sometimes, you can’t hear the “voice of experience” and absorb some wisdom until you’ve had a few too many good, hard knocks upside the head. Keep on keepin’ on–wishing you the best!

  • gilda

I hope her new music comes out soon I really miss Chaka’s way of giving people what they need musically. Her personal life should be just that because most of us have been following her since the 70′s making you long for REAL music not this messy internet crap. Please Chaka give us some of your music soon! I hope she is doing better though because her fans/friends all love her so much we are loyal unlike those people in rehabs or the media. Come on Chaka give it to us girl we’re waiting!!

    • Michael

Gilda, you are right! we are loyal fans, we celebrate the music, but most we should celebrate, encourage, and uplift the person. I didn’t know Chaka was struggling again, but I’m so happy she’s proactive in her treatment. I’ve been a fan since 1973. Life is full of struggles and CK’s is displayed for the world to see, This world today is full of rumours, mis-quotes, and plain ole lies. So I say we send love and prayers to our “Queen of Funk” and she’ll be alright!!!

      • gilda

Oh yeah Michael I’m with you all of the way her music is so good just can’t get enough of it. I’m so proud of her for taking care of herself and knowing what she needs to do to get better. We love us some Chaka Khan and want the best for her!

  • Michael

Thanks Karlos for the clarification!! Ms Khan we love you and only wish you the best!!!!
